Children's Vision Day 2012

Wednesday 15 August 2012

The goal of the Children’s Vision campaign is to better educate the public on matters relating to children’s vision with an emphasis on maintaining good vision and early detection of eye problems or diseases.

Children's Vision Day is a public awareness and education campaign that provides an opportunity for schools to help educate students and parents about the importance of having regular eye checks with an Optometrist and the role vision plays in learning.

Schools can participate by ordering free materials, running in class activities, sharing infromation with parents or inviting an Optometrist to attend their school to talk about the importance of eye health and vision.

The importance of good vision needs to be recognised and we hope that Children's Vision Day provides a memorable experience for all involved to ensure early detection of eye conditions in children.

How to Get Involved

Below are a few ways you can get involved in Children's Vision Day in 2012:

  • display the poster, provide stickers to students and talk to your students about eye health

  • download and use the student activity modules

  • invite an optometrist to speak to your school about eye health

  • dress up as the 'Clues to Good Vision' characters

  • play fun vision-related games, such as charades or Pictionary

  • get students to bring along healthy lunch snacks to share

  • get students to bring their sunglasses and wear them all day when outside

  • have students decorate their sunglasses, or make eye-themed posters

  • take lots of photos of your day and display them!

You can devote the day, or simply spend 20 minutes - how much you do is up to you!
